4707. Car Start Date Issue - If car is assigned in earlier tax years?

If you have entered the start date (Car First Available Date) of an car benefit which is within the tax year being reported and when submitted to HMRC, HMRC believes that the car benefit was only available in the current tax year.

If the start date (Car First Available Date) is in previous tax year, it is assumed that the car benefit is continued to be used in current tax year. In such case the system will automatically submits blank start date in P11D form to HMRC.

The HMRC business rules do state that Car First Available Date should only be populated if the car was first made available within the tax year being reported.
